When my anxiety gets loud, how can I use this week’s “voice of reason” theme in Stoic to actually hear the calmer part of me?

Try a brief settling ritual before you write: one slow inhale/exhale, then name what you feel in one word. Now journal in two columns: “Loud Voice” vs. “Reason.” First, let the anxious mind speak without fixing it. Then, in the second column, answer with one calm, factual sentence per worry. Use the prompts “What has your voice of reason been telling you lately?” and “In which area of life do you listen to reason the most, and in which the least?” If you get harsh, borrow the Dalai Lama’s line—“Be kind whenever possible”—and rewrite your Reason column kindly, not perfectly. End with a single grounding truth for the day (e.g., “I can only do the next right thing”). Return to that line whenever the noise spikes.

How do I journal about fear of failure at work without spiraling, and connect it to the quotes this week?

Start with Judy Hopps: “Life’s a little bit messy.” Write a quick Mistake Map: 1) Last time I ignored better judgment (Prompt 2), 2) The aftermath, 3) The one lesson I still use. Next, flip to William Blake: “What is now proved was once only imagined.” List three skills or outcomes you once doubted that later became real. Then do a brief Reason Check: one sentence each on what’s in your control today, what’s not, and one kind action you’ll take (“Be kind whenever possible”). Close with a 3-line reflection on when following your voice of reason paid off (Prompt 3)—note what helped you obey it, so you can repeat that condition on workdays.

I know what my reasonable inner voice would say, but I don’t follow through. How can I turn that one sentence into daily practice this week?

Use Prompt 7 to write your one-sentence guidance for the year. Now make a tiny ritual around it: 1) Morning: copy the sentence at the top of your entry. 2) Midday: write one example of where it applied (even small). 3) Evening: one line on how postponing it showed up and what the postponing gave you (Prompt 6). Invite your “external voice of reason” (Prompt 5) by capturing a line they’d tell you, and pair it with your own. Keep it light—Dr. Seuss and Roald Dahl remind us that a little nonsense and magic wake up the brain; let your sentence be simple, memorable, and a bit playful. You’re not forcing change—just practicing hearing and honoring the calm voice once per day.

On The Voice of Reason

This week, we’ll finally listen to the calm voice that rarely shouts, but usually knows everything.
